The Cordial Surface

They now made an effort
To chose words carefully
When they did speak.

Few words could express
What a glance in passing
Exchanged with them.

Their body language alone,
Spoke volumes in regards
To their mutual feelings.

One heated moment,
The harbinger of a truth
Too hot to properly handle.

In a time pregnant
With a stillborn trust,
Hard fought to conceive.

What happened when lust
Unravels unexpected things,
Could not have been predicted.

Since then, within them both,
Beneath the cordial surface,
Some acrid sentiments remained.

None objecting to the honesty,
Which eventually proved too brutal,
Debunking their love theory.
