Shards Of You
Resounding the sound of your rejection
Shamelessly begging for scraps of your affection.
Feeling empty inside until you fill me with grief,
And I am to blame for allowing myself
To be your unconditional foot mat.
I would weep, but for my own sanity.
Laughing so loud it suppresses the echoes
Of empty promises and continuous neglect.
On planet platonic we await the nothing
Which we swore would never tear us apart.
My resilient heart beats steady in my chest,
Unsoiled by your efforts to bury me in your darkness.
While I pick up the pieces of me you had scattered,
I am careful not to wound myself on the shards of you
Flying in flocks behind your intriguing smile.
